TRUMP: A Counter Narrative — 47 Landmark Achievements

A new e-book available from Amazon.com

More than 150 books have been written about Trump since 2016, the overwhelming majority of which are negative. This book takes a different approach.

Public discussion of Donald Trump's presidency has often focused on scandals, controversies, investigations, and personalities. Whatever their historical importance, they have frequently overshadowed the administration's policies and legislation. Some of his critics are loath to admit even a single accomplishment. Try 47.

Do you have an open mind? This book will test you. If you are a Trump admirer, this book will provide you with 47 concise talking points drawn from publicly available sources. Each topic is roughly one page long and can be read in any order, making it easy to explore the subjects of greatest interest to you.

If you are a Trump skeptic, this book offers something equally valuable: an opportunity to test your assumptions against the historical record. You may finish the book with the same opinion of the man, but perhaps not of every policy. Read the evidence and decide for yourself.

I dare you.

Securing our Nation’s Borders and Reclaiming our Sovereignty

Chapter illustration

Among the more contentious political issues of President Trump’s first and second terms has been the problem of illegal immigration and the federal government’s proper response to it, or lack thereof.

During President Trump’s first term, yearly southwest-border encounters generally ranged from between 400,000 to 1 million. Under Biden, conservative estimates indicate they soared into the 1.7–2.5 million per year range for multiple consecutive years. Using 2.2 million annual Southwest border encounters as an example, one would need 40,000 Greyhound buses to accommodate that number of people. A convoy this size on a standard U.S. interstate highway would stretch 825 miles, roughly the distance from New York to Chicago.

During the Biden years, the combined federal and state agencies tasked with managing this extraordinary crisis increasingly resembled not a conventional law-enforcement operation, but a standing humanitarian-logistical mobilization on a continental scale, costing billions of dollars a year. To put it mildly, this is not remotely sustainable.

For nearly all blue states, the effort and resources required to manage this registered as little more than abstract statistics. In contrast, red states faced overwhelmed shelter systems, strained local services, ceaseless crime- and medical-related emergencies, all of which constituted extreme economic, physical and psychological burdens.

This vast problem has been destabilizing not only to the United States, but to the entire Western Hemisphere (North, Central and South America). Unlike any of the administrations that preceded him, President Trump uniquely grasped the vast scale of the dangers inherent to this catastrophe, which had been allowed to plummet into absolute free fall. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

A resetting of the policies and enforcement of our national borders was long, long overdue and future presidents, and as well as future generations, will forever benefit from the unflinching resolve of President Trump on this issue, one of paramount importance to America's continued security and prosperity.

Defending America's Interests in the Panama Canal

Panama Canal at night — USS Milwaukee transiting the locks

Unbeknownst to most Americans, even those who work in foreign policy circles, over the past decades Chinese-backed companies had gradually established authority over key logistics, ports, and infrastructure in one of the world's most strategically important maritime chokepoints: the Panama Canal. This includes the Balboa and Cristóbal ports, located at opposite ends of the Canal – extraordinarily critical chokepoints controlling access to the Atlantic and Pacific canal approaches.

Roughly forty percent of U.S. container traffic depends on the Panama Canal, a core national trade artery. In contrast, China relies on it far more selectively, just one of several important export corridors among its many global trade routes.

For the United States, any disruptions at the Panama Canal could jeopardize any number of core national interests: East Coast supply chains, Gulf Coast energy and agriculture sectors, domestic coast-to-coast shipping, and U.S. naval mobility and other military logistics between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

And yet despite its paramount importance to American economic and security interests, the Obama and Biden administrations took no real action (read: effectively, nothing, and for 12 years!) to curb China's incursions into the Canal Zone and to protect American sovereignty in the Western Hemisphere.

Without safeguarding the canal's long-term strategic integrity, the United States risks allowing rival powers, namely the juggernaut that is China, to gain potentially catastrophic leverage over a maritime artery that is, beyond any doubt, indispensable to American commerce, naval power, and hemispheric security.

President Trump is the first in recent history to grasp the true scale of the dangers here and, more importantly, the first to take concrete action to not only contain, but reverse, this perilous state of affairs.

President Trump put the world, and more specifically China, on notice that no diminishment of America's prerogatives or its dominance over this sphere will be tolerated. And the United States and its people are safer for it, as are all free countries that depend on the Panama Canal for trade and economic prosperity.
